In the months since the comet passed, herders and hunters have been telling the same story. Beasts that once kept to the deep brush have started coming into the open. Boars on the green pastures of Solzreed. Grubs along the cold ridgelines of the Karkasse high country. Ants and stranger things dragging themselves out of heat-cracked desert washes after dusk.
Nobody agrees on why. Some say that the land is restless while others say that the beasts can feel a fight coming and are choosing sides. What is certain is that adventurers have begun following them, looking for a companion that will stand alongside in battle against the dark forces.
Taming
Taming is the first custom profession that is being added to ArcheAge Classic, as part of 1.3.6 - Discovery. This profession will fall under the "Special" category, and revolve all around taming wild beasts out in the world, either using these as your own personal mounts, or exchanging them for materials used in various ways throughout the folio of crafting recipes.
Taming the Creature
Tameable beasts appear as wild stragglers around Erenor. They are marked Tameable Beast. You'll find wild tameable beasts all around regions that have a climate typical for their species to live in, such as Ants in Windscour Savannah, and Jabberwocks in Hellswamp. Alongside wild, wandering tameable beasts, you can instigate one to come out of their slumber by slaughtering its own kind in one of these regions.
The Tamer's Equipment
The Tamer's backpack grants unique skills that match the beast's mood. When the beast is Scared, Soothe it to gain its trust. Should you Dance when the beast is angry or scared, they will lose trust and eventually flee. Using the wrong action at the wrong time may cause the beast to grow wary of you, making it more difficult to gain its trust. As you gain access to the more advanced sets of tools available in the higher quality of backpacks, you'll notice taming beasts becomes marginally easier.

Your New Companion
A tame is made up of a grade, personality, and species. Grade determines the mount's base movement speed, personality decides its 3rd, 4th, and 5th skills, and species decides its 1st and 2nd.
The first two skills will stay the same across personalities, but remain unique to each mount species. The remaining three slots are randomized between either the default skill available to the species at that level, or the skill added by its personality at that level.
In total, there are four personalities: Hasty, Ferocious, Resolute, and Spunky.
As an example, here are the possibilities for a Hasty-personality Boar. Reminder, all grades have the same skill pool.
| Skill # | Species (Boar) | Personality (Hasty) |
|---|---|---|
| Skill 1 | Run! | — |
| Skill 2 | Protective Instincts | — |
| Skill 3 | Penetrating Horn | Leader of the Pack |
| Skill 4 | Detect Smell | Guardian's Eyes |
| Skill 5 | Blazing Skin | Elegant Leap |
Returning It to the Wild
Stablehands now sell a Wildcaller Flute. Using one on a mount returns it to the wild and yields Whistles of the Wild.

Whistles of the Wild
Whistles of the Wild are used to craft taming equipment, mount armor, and various other crafts.
Mount Armor
Mount armor is worn in three pieces: the shaffron, the saddle, and the cannonguards. Each piece is made in three tiers, beginning with the base nameless tier, then Regal, and then Ornate. There are four variants: Swift for a mount whose arts should return more quickly, Stout for one that should stand against harm, Survey for the pack so the beast can still walk while carrying, and Support for the company around it, restoring their mana. The steel is the same from one variant to the next. What changes is the path, and with it the set.
Set Effects
Three matching pieces of the same path and tier activate set effects, increasing in potency with each tier.
Set Effect Example - Survey
With a 3 piece set of Survey, any mount you'd like can become a viable donkey replacement. Though, they won't have the same carrot-based diet.
Potential
Taming armor can be regraded like other gear, granting gem slots with higher grade. A full Ornate set filled with Celerity gems will be the fastest mount in Erenor. Mix this with each species of beast being a little different than any other currently available mount, Taming quickly becomes the best way to find the perfect companion for yourself. Such as a cute Crab that is most comfortable in the water. Maybe that does the trick for you.
Taming Consumables
Whistles of the Wind are not only used for taming equipment and mount armor, but in various other consumables that will become available to players. These consumables have recipes that mingle with existing economies and material ecosystems, while offering exclusive effects that you can't find anywhere else, such as:
- Snacks giving your mounts a boost in speed for a short amount of time
- Food that can be fed to your mount, to restore its Health and Mana over a short period
- Emergency potions that can give your companion a burst of Mana
- Meals that increase your Combat Pet's capabilities
- Actually viable mount resurrection options while on the go
These are just the beginning, and as time goes on, Taming will only become more intertwined with existing systems.
Additional costs and exact recipes will not be revealed at this time.
