The only way to stop the curse from spreading is to remove @ITEM_NAME(24399) from this @DOODAD_NAME(3260), and deliver it to |nn;@NPC_NAME(2097)|r. But you must protect yourself, first.

There is a holy flower that grows nearby, called |nn;@ITEM_NAME(18057)|r. Pick one. You will also need a |nn;@ITEM_NAME(23404)|r from either a Barn Owl or a Screech Owl.

Hold them both before you as you approach the @DOODAD_NAME(3260). That should protect you from the spell's effects while you retrieve the book.
